Biography

Tevong You is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Theoretical Particle Physics and Cosmology group in the Department of Physics, King's College London. Previously, he was a Gonville & Caius College Lecturer (2018 - 2022) and Junior Research Fellow (2015 - 2018) at the University of Cambridge, a Senior Research Fellow (2019 - 2022) at CERN, and the first Branco Weiss Society in Science Fellow (2018 - 2023) in particle physics. He obtained his PhD in theoretical particle physics at King's College London (2012 - 2015), under the supervision of John Ellis, and his Masters and undergraduate degrees at ETH Zurich and Imperial College London.

Research Interests

Dr. Tevong You is a theorist whose research in particle phenomenology lies at the intersection of experiment, observation, and theory in the quest to uncover the fundamental laws of the Universe. He investigates the implications of data on theoretical ideas, and vice versa, for clues on how to go beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. Amongst his accomplishments, he has helped to establish the properties of the then newly discovered Higgs boson in 2012 (with the 2013 Nobel prize scientific background document quoting his paper in stating that "beyond any reasonable doubt, it is a Higgs boson") and promoted early on the Standard Model Effective Field Theory approach into a framework now widely adopted in particle physics. His research further introduces new ideas for understanding unsolved mysteries in fundamental physics, such as the origin of the Higgs and the nature of dark matter, and characterises the types of new physics that may be discovered in future experimental measurements or astrophysical and cosmological observations. He is a leading advocate for future colliders and is regularly invited to give overview talks on their theoretical motivations.
