We advance resilience and adaptation in the UK and internationally, while addressing threats to mental and physical health in the face of environmental change and extremes.
Our researchers respond to the urgent need to protect people, places, communities and public services from climate and environmental risks. Researchers across King’s are developing new knowledge and practical solutions such as adaptation processes at global and local levels, protecting mental and physical health in temperature extremes, developing resilience in UK communities, supporting climate-affected and vulnerable populations worldwide, and working with local governments to help turn research into action.
Adapting to the impacts of climate change is essential in building resilience and improving global health outcomes. Projects that address these challenges explore strengthening resilience across UK and global communities, mapping the intersectional challenges of climate change and mental health in cities, exploring effective retrofitting of housing, supporting policy and humanitarian responses to disasters, embedding equitable climate mobility, and turning climate-related loss into positive action.
These projects combine expertise from across disciplines and sectors, bringing together social science, health, policy and environmental research to develop practical solutions for a changing climate with partners in Government, NGOs and business. Through approaches including AI-enabled tools, nature-based solutions and collaboration with policymakers and communities, King’s researchers are supporting resilient communities, informing positive climate action and helping shape a healthier, safer future for everyone.
