If you interrupt or withdraw from your studies, your tuition fees will be recalculated based on the number of weeks you have attended during the year. Undergraduate fees are based on 30 weeks' worth of attendance. Please note that in counting the number of weeks we do not include vacation periods (Christmas and Easter).
If you are withdrawn by King’s due to non-payment of your tuition fees, then your fee liability will be recalculated based on the number of weeks you have attended during the year up to the point you were suspended.
Please carefully read the relevant section below for more information:
Programme fee divided by year length (30 weeks) multiplied by number of weeks attended.
Please note, that due to the rules about how student loan fee payments are made to Higher Education Institutions, King’s applies a cap on the maximum amount you will be charged for the period of attendance, in the event that you interrupt your studies or withdraw. This cap is applied consistently to both self-funded and Student Loans Company funded students. Therefore, the maximum amount you will be charged in the event of interruption or withdrawal for each term is;
Please note that the policy guidance will be updated in due course for Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) funded students.
Where you are self-funded, then any pro-rata calculated fees will be due in full within 14 days from the date of the new invoice.

The date which you wish to return from interruption should be discussed and agreed with your department. In turn, your department can communicate your fee liability which you will need to pay upon your return from interruption. It is the Student Records Team who is responsible for calculating your fee liability and this will be based on the number of remaining weeks to be attended on your return, as agreed with your department.
Please note:
If you are unable to progress into the next year of study, and have been granted further attempts at re-assessment, then you will have to repeat the year.
You can either be an 'Active student – repeat teaching’ or 'dormant' to resubmit failed or deferred assessment.
This means you will not be in attendance for any lectures or tutorials, and you will not have access to laboratories or specialist facilities, although you will still have access to libraries and to KEATS to revise for your exams.
If you have been offered a period of repeat teaching your student status will be ‘Active’.
Repeat teaching is where a student undertakes the teaching for one or more modules for a second time before they take the assessment or reassessment.
Unless repeat teaching is a statutory requirement or to maintain a clinical skill for a PSRB regulated programme, then from 2025/26 you should not be charged for attending repeat teaching which you have already been charged for.
If repeat teaching is a statutory requirement or to maintain clinical or professional skill for a PSRB regulated programme and you are being reassessed in all components of all modules for that year of the programme, the fees for the repeat year will be charged in full. However, where PSRB programmes mandate students to repeat periods of clinical practice and/or placements to maintain clinical and professional skill, you will be charged a pro-rata fee. This will be outlined in your programme specification.
Where fees are charged on a pro rata basis, then this will be based on the number of credits.
Programme fee divided by total number of credits for the year of the programme multiplied by number of credits being resat.
If you have any further questions that you feel are not addressed from the above, please submit your query through Student Services Online and a member of staff will be happy to help you.
