Overview

Do you want to learn more about how organisations and society are transforming through technologies like AI and Virtual Reality? And how professionals navigate digital transformation and effectively integrate emerging technologies into their work? Do you want to equip yourself to make a meaningful difference to these changes?

A high proportion of change initiatives, including technologically focused ones, fail. This is often because of a limited understanding of human-technology collaboration. Adopting perspectives from social science, this MSc will enhance your knowledge of new technologies and, more importantly, foster your understanding of the practices, processes, and structures of work in contemporary society. This will equip you to bridge the gap between cutting-edge and evolving technologies and the people who drive their success.

You do not need coding or maths skills to enrol in this MSc. The programme is designed to help you understand people and technology, focusing on the ability to assess requirements for new technologies and consider their implications and implementation, rather than technical programming or mathematical analysis.

Course essentials

Digital tools and AI are transforming every organisation, but technology success isn't just about the tech. It's about people. Whether it's generative AI, robotics, or digital platforms, the reason most technology projects succeed or fail comes down to how well they resonate with people's expectations, work practices, knowledge, and skills. This programme helps you decode the human side of technology, giving you the tools to understand user needs, navigate organisational change, and lead digital transformation that actually works.

In Term 1, you'll build your foundation through social science theory, research methods, and real-world case studies that explore how new technologies impact workplaces, organisations, and society. Term 2 shifts to applied practice with core modules in Change Management and New Technologies, culminating in the Design Sprint. This signature module is an intensive week that uses Google's Sprint Methodology, where you'll tackle real industry challenges presented by experts and pitch your solutions back to them. You'll also choose from optional modules to deepen your expertise in areas that matter to your career.

Term 3 is devoted to your individual management research project, where you'll conduct rigorous, in-depth research on a topic aligned with your interests or professional goals. You'll present your findings in two formats: an academic research paper and a practitioner-focused video, demonstrating your ability to engage both scholarly and professional audiences.
