Bioscience Education BSc

Students on the standard 3-year (Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Medical Physiology or Molecular Genetics programmes) who started their degrees in 2021/22 or later, have the option to study abroad for the first semester of their second year at either the Universities of California or North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Biomedical Science students have the additional options of selecting Karolinska or Skovde as their first semester destination.

Bioscience Education BSc

Students (Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Developmental and Human Biology, Molecular Genetics and Medical Physiology) who started their degrees in 2020/21 or later have the additional option of transferring to a 4-year version of their programme with a whole year abroad in between their 2nd and 3rd year at King’s. These students will have the option of taking the full year abroad at any of the Bioscience Education partners listed above.

Bioscience Education MSci

Students that started their degree in 21/22 or later, have the option study abroad for the first semester of their second year at either the University of California or the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.

How to get approval for studying abroad:

All Bioscience Education students currently studying in their 1st year and applying for the semester one only option are required to achieve at a least a 60% average across their mid-sessionals and a 60% average in their first year, to be approved to study abroad. Students currently studying in their 2nd year and applying for the whole year abroad as part of a 4-year programme are required to achieve at a least a 60% average in their 2nd year.

This guidance is based on students' study abroad experiences over the past few years, and was presented at the 2022 Go Global Bioscience Education briefing. Students are advised to consult their programme advisors when applying for study abroad. Finally, students (including those on the Neuroscience programme) can also consider the extra mural year as an alternative way to add value to their King's Bioscience Education degree.
