Postgraduate research

The IoPPN is one of the world’s leading centres for mental health and related neurosciences research. We are the world’s second most cited institution carrying out psychiatry and psychology research, with 22 of the most highly cited scientists in this field in the world. All of our postgraduate research students operate in world-class facilities, and benefit from fantastic support networks and training opportunities, including the Researcher Development Programme (RDP). The RDP provides our students with a range of training and development courses, aimed at enhancing personal, professional and career skills.

The SGDP Centre welcomes applications from both U.K. and international students. The Centre’s students are diverse in their backgrounds, with about half coming from social science and the other half from biological and related sciences. Our students are supported by a range of funding schemes including the MRC, ESRC, BBSRC, DRIVE-Health, King’s China Scholarship Council scheme and many others. Our academic faculty members of the Centre are able to supervise students on a traditional 3- or 4-year PhD, as well as those on a 1+3 PhD studentship.
