Organ Scholarship

Organ Pipes

The College offers an organ scholarship, typically worth £4,000 each year. Duties involve assisting the Director of the Choir and accompanying the Choir at Evensong and the College Eucharist services.

In addition, the Organ Scholar may be required to play for the weekly Morning Prayer service held at 09.30. This is a short congregational service consisting of psalms and a hymn.

The organ scholarship audition entails:

  • playing two contrasting pieces (one by Bach);
  • some sightreading;
  • playing a hymn and some improvisation.

Please contact us in early January of a given year to arrange an audition in the January-March audition window for September intake of the same year.

The Organ Scholar for 2023-24 is Jeremy Ng.

How to Apply

Auditions are held during the period January to March each year.

Requests to arrange an audition are usually emailed to choir@kcl.ac.uk in early January.

The audition usually entails:
playing two contrasting pieces (one by Bach);
sightreading (provided in the audition);
playing a hymn (provided in the audition) and improvising an extension between the penultimate and final verses.
