'Debate Europe' with Mr Daniel Cohn-Bendit Tuesday February 28 Great Hall, 6.30 pm

Once the flamboyant leader of the May 1968 student revolts, now MEP and one of Europe's most original and convincing political commentators, Mr Cohn-Bendit will share his 'certaine idée de l'Europe' and debate with students and staff.
The topics to be debated include;
• Mrs Merkel's alleged 'Thatcherisation';
• the breakup of the European Union's political project;
• the French electoral crossroads of 2012;
• the puzzling rise of populist parties and the impact of the Eurozone crisis on the Merkozy love affair.
Students and staff from all faculties are welcome to attend the talk and wine reception with the speaker which will follow the talk.

Chair: Professor Sir Francis Jacobs, Professor of Law and Jean Monnet Professor, School of Law; Professor, College of Europe, Bruges.
Ms Viviane Reding, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship will present her vision of the construction of Europe and debate with staff and students on topical issues such as:
• the redefinition of the freedom of movement in times of economic crisis;
• revolutionary uprisings in Northern Africa; the re-introduction of border controls;
• the integration of Roma communities;
• Viktor Orban’s constitutional reforms;
• data protection and social networks and the path towards the creation of a ‘European rule of law'.
