British Australian Studies Association
Introduction
The British Australian Studies Association (BASA) supports academic and public events in Britain focused on a broad range of Australia-related topics. The Association also produces Australian Studies, a fully refereed international journal edited by Professor Phillip Payton.
From late 2009 Australian Studies will be published free online via the website of the National Library of Australia, extending BASA’s remit to promote international quality research on Australian culture, geography, literature, history, law, political science, economics, the media, and so on.
Establish in 1982, BASA’s principal objectives are:
• To promote within Great Britain interest in, and the study of, Australia;
• To facilitate contact between individuals and groups, in areas such as the arts and sciences, education, industry and commerce and political life, who have a serious interest in aspects of Australian life;
• To develop and improve resources available in Britain for the study of Australia;
• To promote links with and exchanges between educational institutions in Britain and Australia.
The BASA Constitution is available below. The Annual General Meeting of the Association is held in September each year, and a further Planning Meeting is held in January each year.

Proposals for BASA support are therefore invited from all members. Planning meetings for the discussion of proposals from members and from the Executive will usually take place in mid January and mid September each calendar year. These meetings are also open to all members.

Proposals, set out at per the Protocols document, should be received by the Secretary by the first Friday of January (for events to be held after June of the same year) and by the first Friday of September (for events to be held after January of the following year).
