Academic staff in the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies teach BA and MA modules in Australian Literature, History and Film and supervise doctoral students in the field of Australian Studies. However, much more than this, the Centre provides a resource base for visiting Australian scholars; promotes scholarly and public understanding in Britain and Europe of Australia's history, politics, economy, life and culture; organises an extensive programme of public lectures, seminars, conferences and business briefings; maintains an active publishing programme; and administers several schemes of scholarships and fellowships to promote academic exchange between Britain and Australia.Research Goals
The Menzies Centre’s research is focused on the study of Australia and Australians in British, European and global contexts, from comparative, interdisciplinary and postcolonial perspectives. Its main strengths lie in history, politics, literature and film studies. Academic staff in the Centre examine British and European images of Australia in the past and present, as well as how British and European ways of seeing have influenced Australian society and culture, interacting with Indigenous, Asian and other identities in a national setting.

This year's lecture was delivered by Professor Graeme Davison from Monash University on Narrating the Nation in Australia, on 20 October 2009.
Alison Clark has been appointed to the Menzies Centre's AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award studentship. This award allows Alison to work jointly with the Menzies Centre and the British Museum on a project researching the Museum's ethnographic photography collection. Alison will be jointly supervised by Dr Henderson (King's) and Dr Lissant Bolton (BM).
