YEAR ONE (Postgraduate Diploma)
 
Tuition fee for 2009/0 (PG Diploma)
£4075 (VAT exempt) for the course units, marking of assignments, examination and two weekend seminars; £3075 (VAT Exempt) for course units only. A nominal charge of £250 (VAT exempt) for materials sent by air courier. Fees do not include hotel accommodation or travel. Fees are payable before the commencement of the course. The first unit will not be sent out until the fee has been paid.

Structure 
This is a twelve unit programme commencing in October 2009. It will extend over seven months leading to a written examination in May 2010. The first unit is due to be sent out on the first Monday in October 2009 and subsequent units will then be issued every two weeks until March 2010 with a four-week break over Christmas.

Material
The PG programme is structured into three modules of 12 units. Each unit comes in the form of hard copy print and as a pdf file via the programme website. The units are designed to be largely self-contained, but recommended and further reading will be suggested. A unit will comprise text, copies of relevant Regulations, Commission Decisions and Notices, Judgments of the Court of First Instance and the European Court of Justice, practical examples, questions and model answers to test your knowledge as you progress. It is anticipated that each unit will require a student to spend approximately twenty hours' study plus questions and further reading and completion of the assignments. Units are normally sent by post. If students are worried about the postal service in the country where they are based, then units can be sent by air courier for which there will be an additional, one-off nominal charge. 
 
Alongside the paper based programme material students will also be able to view and download their material from a website specifically designed for their programme. Modules will be uploaded in a pdf format on their despatch date. This website also offers students the opportunity to interact with each other and view any other information relevant to the course. Organisational and administrative support is readily available through the Distance Learning Organiser at Informa and the Programme Administrator at King's College London.
 
Seminars
Those wishing to take the examination will be eligible to attend two weekend seminars in London. These will be held in December 2009 and April 2010 (dates to be specified).
 
Assessment
Students will be required to submit three 2000 word assignments during the first year. Together these assignments constitute 30% of the final overall mark for the Postgraduate Diploma.
The three-hour written examination will take place during May 2009 either at King's College London or a different venue in London. Arrangements can be made to sit the exam overseas. This arrangement carries a fee by King's College London and the invigilating institution. Successful candidates will obtain the Postgraduate Diploma in EC Competition Law. Results are graded into Pass (50-59%), Merit (60-69%) and Distinction (70%+).

All supporting documentation submitted with an application must be original or a certified copy thereof and in English. Photocopies are not accepted in any circumstances. Early application is advisable as numbers are limited, but we will consider late applications if places are still available. YEAR TWO (Masters)
Students who have successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma at Merit level (for intake 2010/11) may apply for the Masters programme in their field. Students will be allocated to a suitable supervisor who they may contact throughout the academic year. Contact time is expected to be around 3-4 meetings a year. A project plan of about 1500 words will be submitted at the beginning of the programme. Upon approval of the project plan by the relevant supervisor, the student will be able to commence the dissertation. Draft chapters of the dissertation will have to be submitted normally 4-5 months before the submission date of the final dissertation. The 12 000-15 000 word dissertation will be due for submission by a specified date which will be no later than the last week of October following commencement of the final year of study.

Applications for the Masters programme

Your application must contain the personal statement and a brief outline of your proposed dissertation. This outline is primarily needed at this stage to ascertain that your chosen field of research lies within the subject area and that a suitable supervisor will be available to you. Generally students submit a 100-word-paragraph.
 
Places for these programmes are limited, and priority will be given to applicants who finished their Diploma in the current year. Normally students are required to start with the MA programme within 3 years of starting the PG Diploma programme.
