Carers' Study
Respite/replacement care for adults with long term neurological conditions
We have been commissioned by the Department of Health to carry out this study across the UK.The study aims to find out whether people who care for adults aged between 18-65 years old with a long term neurological condition can get the replacement care / respite care they need in order to have more freedom outside their caring role.
We also want to know what carers’ past experiences of this type of care have been like and what a ‘five star’ service would be like.
In order to do this we are carrying out a nationwide survey. The survey questionnaire is available by post or online.
Further details about the survey such as;
- who is eligible to take part in this survey
- definitions of replacement care / respite care and
- general background information
are given in the full information sheet which is available below as a PDF file.

If you wish to take part
If you wish to take part please read the information sheet (pdf at the bottom of this page) and then let us know if you would prefer:
- a paper questionnaire sent through the post (we will supply a postage paid return envelope)
- to do the questionnaire online. If you prefer this we will send you an email that allows you to access the online survey. Accessing it by email rather than directly through a website means you will be able to complete part of it and then come back to it later instead of having to do it all in one go.
The scope of our work
Researchers in our department study a diverse range of health care issues, including the rehabilitation and after care of people with both sudden onset and progressive neurological conditions.
Our work in palliative care addresses ways of supporting people with a range of life-limiting illnesses and their family carers. More information about our department can be found on these webpages.
