Centre for Telecommunications Research

Centre for Telecommunications Research (CTR) The Centre for Telecommunications Research (CTR) was established in the early 1990s. It initially focused on lower layer aspects of mobile/wireless communications systems, right down to microwave circuit design. Since the end of the 1990s, much work in the area of protocol creation and analysis has been successfully pursued at the CTR, establishing its strengths at a range of layers of the OSI reference model. The accumulation of comprehensive knowledge within the CTR therefore puts it in a strong position to contribute to all aspects of the creation of the universal communications systems of the future. Some 30 researchers are currently working within the CTR, including academic staff, research staff, research students, and visiting academics.

The CTR has a long history of performing cutting-edge research for a range of successful projects, including the EU-supported IST-TRUST, IST-SCOUT, IST-MIND, IST-BRAIN, IST-E2R, IST-EVEREST and IST-AROMA projects, the Industry and EPSRC-supported Mobile VCE consortium, and a large number of other projects supported by research funding organisations and industry.

The CTR is a dynamic research centre, drawing in talented researchers from the world over and reacting rapidly to the changing technological landscape. It maintains an exceptional reputation for high quality work.
