Dr Jeremy Hodgen

My teaching involves contributions to the PhD, Doctorate in Education, Master's and PGCE.

I coordinate the Foundations of Teaching and Learning module in MA Mathematics Education.  I lead the advanced research methods course for the Doctorate in Education, as well as being Deputy Director of the EdD programme I also teach quantitative methods for the PhD/MPhil research training programme. I am a personal tutor on the PGCE Mathematics course and my PGCE teaching includes number theory, A-level teaching and assessment.

I am a member of three research groups in the Department of Education & Professional Studies: the mathematics education research group, the assessment for learning group and the psychology and cognitive processes group. My research interests include:

•    Mathematics teaching and learning across the age range
•    Assessment
•    Teachers’ professional development and subject knowledge

I am secretary of the British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics and recently jointly edited the society’s 2007 annual proceedings. I am a member of the Editorial Board of the Society’s journal, Research in Mathematics Education I am also a member of the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics Research Advisory Committee.
