Reaching the Global Market: Legal Analysis of Chinese Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions

China is moving ahead with its “Walking-out Strategy”, and will predictably become one of the major forces in the global M&A. The industrial and geographic coverings by the M&A have presented a diversified tendency. This seminar will investigate the relationship between the Chinese law and cross-border M&A. The speaker will introduce current regulatory framework, competent authorities, application procedures, time scale and financing methods as well as the legal constraints faced by the Chinese companies in their global operations. Finally, the speaker will specify what reform measures are needed to address the bottlenecks of Chinese legal settings.
About the speaker
Dr. Jing BIAN [PhD , LL.M , PG.Dip , LL.B], is a Senior Teaching Fellow of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, SOAS, University of London. She served as a research assistant in the Office of General Counsel, Hong Kong Monetary Authority in 2008 (Restricted); and, was formerly a civil servant in the justice department, China. Dr. Jing Bian’s research interests focus on: Comparative and International Financial Regulation, Corporate Governance, Merger & Acquisition, Chinese Law, Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Financial Management, Law and Economics, and Islamic Finance. She has provided consultancy to international institutions as well as international transactions. She is currently sitting in the journal: China Construction Law Review.
