      The conference was held jointly between the Centre for Chinese Governance Innovation at King’s College London’s Lau China Institute, together with Peking University Centre for International Security and Peace Studies.

      Maritime and territorial disputes in the South and East China Seas, arguably the most pressing security and geostrategic issue in Asia-Pacific, constitute a major challenge to international relations and global security governance theory and practice.  This full day conference will bring together 8 principal experts from China and United Kingdom providing a rare opportunity for academics, research students and policy advisors to examine the most recent developments in the disputes and their historical origins in relation to larger issues concerning seapower and maritime security, international law, use of force and risk control measures deployed in managing differences and tensions between the parties involved.
