Biography
Chiara de Franco, Laurea cum laude (Università di Bologna), MRes, PhD (European University Institute, Florence) is currently Research Fellow at King’s College London, Department. of War Studies.
She has been previously deputy director of the ERC-funded Foresight Project, Lecturer in International Relations Theory and War Representations at the University of Florence, Lecturer in European Affairs at the Florida State University, and Research Assistant at the European University Institute.
Her professional training includes a working experience at the UNDPKO, Situation Center, NYC Headquarters, and the development of documentary movies.
Current Research
Dr Chiara de Franco is deputy director of the ERC-funded 'ImpactTracer' project, coordinator of the Task Force for the Improvement of the EU's Capabilities to Prevent Mass Atrocities, and and member of the Foresight Research Group. In this framework, she is researching and writing on the Balkan conflicts, organisational learning at the OSCE and the UN, processes of mediatisation in warfare, and the role of narratives and practices in IR. Her specialisations include International political communication and constructivist approaches to International Relations. Other research interests include the use of religious discourses in conflict mediation. She is the author of Media Power and the Transformation of War (Palgrave Macmillan 2012).
