CDS operates in three distinct, but overlapping research areas: Academic, Public Policy, and Corporate Consultancy, and draws upon a staff of academic policy researchers, former practitioners, associates, and visiting fellows.

The Centre seeks to bring a greater degree of historical and strategic expertise to statecraft, diplomacy and foreign policy focusing on bringing top-class academic expertise to bear on the policy-making process and the public debate about foreign policy.

CSSS conducts scholarly and policy-relevant research and teaching on weapons proliferation, non-proliferation, verification and disarmament, nuclear security, space security and mass effect terrorism including the CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) dimension.
