Bush House

Bush House Buildings

In July 2015 King’s signed 50 year leases on five buildings – Bush House North & South Wings, Bush House North East Wing, Bush House South East Wing, Bush House North West Wing, and Melbourne House – on Aldwych.

We are currently moving staff and students into these new buildings, which will provide a home for many of our academic departments, as well as state-of-the-art learning and social spaces and enhanced student facilities.

This enhancement of the Strand Campus will help us consolidate our position as a top 25 global university by providing world class education and research facilities. Acquiring the Bush House buildings will enable us to create a wonderful and dynamic campus in the heart of London by uniting two prime central London locations, the Aldwych and our historic Strand Campus, providing state of the art education and learning facilities for our students.

Bush House North & South Wings

Bush House North & South Wings form the centre of Bush House buildings. The former home of the BBC World Service, they feature the iconic Kingsway portico entrance with its neoclassical columns and statues, as well as the building’s main lobby.

They also features a 395-seat auditorium, lecture theatres, teaching rooms, departmental spaces, the Arcade, housing a café, the official Union Shop and a cultural space. Two roof terraces on level 8 offer stunning views across London.

The North-East Wing features nine levels of departmental space and teaching rooms, as well as The Exchange, an open, collaborative space designed for events, exhibitions and breakout space. There are also showers, bike storage and a chaplaincy in the North East Wing.

We are currently in the process of moving several departments into the building. The Faculty Office of for Social Science & Public Policy and the School of Politics & Economics moved across in Autumn 2017, with School of Global Affairs due to move after  Easter 2018.

Bush House South East Wing

We are currently finalising the fit-out of the South East Wing. Once the work is complete in summer 2018, the English Language Centre, Student Support & Wellbeing Services, NHS Health Centre, Careers & Employability and KCLSU will move in

The South-East Wing features the Strand entrance, a student hub, café and bar facilities, teaching spaces, informal learning spaces, and staff showers.

Bush House North West Wing

We have also taken a pre-let of the Bush House North West building, comprising approximately 65,000 sq. ft. on a long-term 50 year lease from 2017. Refurbishment works were completed in the summer of 2017, when the building was handed over to King's, and we’re currently sub-letting it to tenants.

Melbourne House

King’s is currently subletting Melbourne House for 10 years, and is due to move into it from 2025.

Courtyard

The Courtyard has been resurfaced and construction of two stunning glass structures forming the Pavilion is now underway. The Pavilion will provide a reception, information point and access to the Undercroft. The outside space will be available for socialising and events, with a canopy which can be used as needed.

Undercroft

The Undercroft is a central area below ground level which connects the North & South, North East and South East Wings. When it’s fully opened in summer 2018, there will be a new KCLSU bar called The Vault, a café/restaurant, informal learning and social spaces, bike racks and showers.
