King's Comparative Literature graduate wins an essay prize

Congratulations to a recent Comparative Literature graduate Daniel Daly who has won the Society for French Studies R.Gapper undergraduate essay prize for his Recent French Thought module essay on Derrida: '"La bête e(s)t le souverain.” Discuss with reference to the first session of Derrida’s La Bête et le souverain.’ 

Mr Daly's essay was judged outstanding by both of the initial readers in the first round, and by the second round panel of judges. The undergraduate award includes a cash prize of £250 and expenses-paid travel to the next annual conference of the Society for French Studies. In 2016 the conference will be hosted by the University of Glasgow and will run from 27–29 July. 

The Society for French Studies is the oldest and largest association in the UK and Ireland, actively representing the interests of scholars and students of French in Higher Education and sustaining a disciplinary community. The Society's R. Gapper prizes are awarded upon scholarly work of outstanding merit, quality and value in the field of French and Francophone studies. Three separate prizes are awarded each year to work by undergraduates, postgraduates, and established researchers. Gapper Undergraduate Essay Prize is awarded by the Society for an essay written by an undergraduate in English or in French, of between 2000 and 5000 words, on any subject within the broader scope of French studies.
