Dr Ruth Adams comments on the National Trust's controversial opening of the Big Brother House

Dr Ruth AdamsDr Ruth Adams had a busy day on Friday 27 September.  As well as participating in the induction week activities for the new students on the MA Cultural and Creative Industries, she appeared on Sky News, Channel 5 News, and Channel 5's current affairs discussion programme NewsTalk Live.

She was asked to comment on the National Trust's controversial opening of the Big Brother House to a paying public over the weekend.  Her take on the story was although this was to some extent a fun gimmick to bring the National Trust to the attention of a younger and more socially diverse audience, it also raised some interesting questions about 'what counts' as heritage.  She argued that although it is certainly possible to argue for the cultural impact and significance of Big Brother, its 'cultural value' might be more open to question.
