Biannual London Nuclear Security Workshop

A new edition of the Fundamentals of Physical Protection workshop was hosted by the BEIS-sponsored Nuclear Security Culture Consortium in September 2017. The workshop was hosted in London, UK and was attended by 10 international representatives from national regulatory bodies, operators, atomic energy agencies and academia working in Egypt, Indonesia, South Africa, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. As always, the workshop was aimed at introducing participants about the threats posed by non-state actors to facilities holding nuclear and radioactive materials, the importance of establishing effective physical protection systems to mitigate them and the importance of security culture. During this 6-day workshop, participants had the chance to participate in various table-top exercises constructed around a hypothetical facilities and to visit a nuclear power plant where they were briefed about the various physical protection measures in place on-site.
