CSSS Attends Nuclear Non-Proliferation Workshop in Georgia
Professor Wyn Bowen, Dr Rob Downes, and Dr Heather Williams traveled to Tbilisi, Georgia, to participate in a nuclear non-proliferation workshop focused on the Black Sea region. Supported by the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, King's College London, Stockholm University and others, the workshop sought to promote joint research between scholars and policy makers from the Black Sea region and other participating institutions. Presenters discussed a wide range of issues, from weaknesses in nuclear security architecture in the UK to critical and gender theory perspectives on nuclear weapons to the Iran nuclear deal. Workshop participants were treated to dinner at the famed Chateau Mukhrani, a vineyard central to Georgia's burgeoning wine industry. The continuing importance of the relationship between King's College London and the Black Sea region is reinforced by Dr Downes and Dr Williams' upcoming attendance at a follow-on event in Tbilisi during September 2017.
