Award for Willard McCarty

Professor Willard McCarty of the Department of Digital Humanities has recently been named by the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organisations as the winner of the 2013 Roberto Busa Award. The Busa Award, named after the pioneer of the use of computing in literary and linguistic research, is made every three years and is the outstanding international award for achievement in the Digital Humanities.

The Chair of the Busa Award Committee, Matthew Jockers of Stanford University, commented that Willard 'is a man of legendary kindness and generosity. His contributions to the growth and prominence of Digital Humanities will be familiar to us all. He is a gentleman, a scholar, a philosopher, and a long time fighter for the cause. He is, by one colleague’s accounting, the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” of Digital Humanities. And I must concur that “the force” is strong with this one. Please join me in congratulating Willard McCarty on his selection for the 2013 Busa Award'.

Willard will accept his award at the 2013 Digital Humanities Conference at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
