Paul Spence gives keynote at first Digital Humanities seminar in Brazil
Senior Lecturer Paul Spence is to give the keynote talk at the first International Seminar in Digital Humanities in Brazil on Thursday.
The seminar, promoted by the University of São Paulo’s research group Humanidades Digitais, will investigate the relationship between digital culture and the humanities, and will bring together researchers in the field from all over the world.
The talk is titled ‘Centres, labels and borders: locating the digital humanities internationally’, and will address how the field of digital humanities is developing globally, and will discuss its departure from an historically Anglophone bias.
Paul said, ‘The International Seminar in Digital Humanities in Brazil at the University of São Paulo is an important milestone in the development of the field of digital humanities outside its traditional spheres of influence, and in particular in Latin America, where it will begin a series of conferences and events in 2013 and 2014 exploring the impact of digital tools, methodologies and culture on the humanities and scholarship more generally.
‘The seminar offers an excellent opportunity to explore the relationship between digital media and the humanities in a truly global context, and to provide exposure to some of the many exciting initiatives in digital humanities emerging from Latin America right now.’
Upcoming conferences include HASTAC in Peru in April 2014, and the next meeting of Humanistas Digitales in Mexico in May 2014.
