DI student Roxanne Mehdizadeh wins essay competition
Congratulations to KCL Dental Institute student Roxanne Mehdizadeh, winner of the Keith Woods Essay Competition, from the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry.
The title of Roxanne's essay was "E-cigarettes; The potential impact on the oral health of the population of the UK", which reflects contemporary public health debate.
"This issue of e-cigarettes and whether they may be considered a legitimate smoking cessation tool or a further menace to the population’s health is controversial and highly contested. As a dental student, my own friends had asked for my opinions on the matter. I was therefore intrigued to read and analyse the latest research myself in order to gain a clearer understanding," explains Roxanne.
The standard of entries to the competition was high, which makes Roxanne's achievement not only a notable personal success but an accolate for the Dental Institute. Roxanne received a certificate and a prize of £200 from the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry.
"I feel very honoured and grateful to have been selected as the winner by BASCD - an association continuously striving to improve our population’s oral health," says Roxanne.
