King's final year student wins a national award hosted by the Association of Dental Groups
Rebecca Exley, a final year BDS student recently entered a national bursary award competition open to all UK dental undergraduates, hygienists, therapists and clinical dental technicians. The Bursary Awards, hosted by the Association of Dental Groups (AGD), offers much needed bursaries to innovative and dedicated young dental professionals. The Undergraduate awards have two categories available; Skill mix in dentistry and Professionalism.
Rebecca entered the professionalism category. This gave her an opportunity to reflect on what professionalism means to her, and how it is taught during the undergraduate curriculum and how she will continue to develop beyond graduation.
Rebecca was elated when she learned that she had won the Professionalism Gold Award. She was delighted to attend the prize giving ceremony at the Royal College of Surgeons on March 18 and receive by award from Dr Sara Hurley (Chief Dental Officer). "I would urge undergraduates to consider entering this award, as the award itself is very prestigious and the monies will go a long way towards funding my summer travel plans."
When introducing the awards, judge panel member Mr David Worskett said: "They provide support for dentistry education, help improve quality and professionalism and help to advance what is already a fine profession."
