Natasha Naeem, she's got a bit of a sweet tooth

Natasha NaeemThird year dentistry student Natasha Naeem has heard all the obvious jokes about her cake making business. Fixing cavities created by cakes and drumming up extra business for herself have often been the punchline, but Natasha has a passion for both baking and dentistry and is happy to smile along to the jokes.

Natasha has always been drawn to making cakes. Winner of the 2015 Great Dental Bake Off with her spectacular and incredibly popular ‘tooth cake’, Natasha has been baking seriously for a few years now. “I’ve always enjoyed baking but after I started getting requests and orders from friends and other students on my course I decided to turn it into a proper side project”.

Natasha was even shortlisted for the Great British Bake Off last year, unfortunately missing out just before the live shows. The experience taught her a lot and she is excited to try again this year.  She is a meticulous planner and always plots out her cake designs. As well as being very artistic, she is dedicated to the taste of cakes. “I don’t want to make cakes that just look good.  Taste is the main thing for me,” she explains.

Juggling her baking business with full time study has been a bit of a challenge, she even had to turn down a few orders over the exam period last year. But mostly she manages well: “If you are passionate about something you make the time for it.”

Natasha is in the middle of her 3rd year studying Dentistry at King’s College London. She is enjoying the hands-on side of the course this year, as it involves more clinical based work; seeing patients at Guy’s Hospital.  Natasha is originally from Leeds and she is thoroughly enjoying living in London. “It’s a great experience being in London, there’s always something to do.”
