Brighton Science Festival
On the 27th and 28th February PhD students, Postdocs, Intercalated and MSc students from the Division of Craniofacial Development & Stem Cell Biology took part in the Brighton Science Festival as part of the Big Science weekend.
The weekend event was aimed at over 16 year olds interested in learning about the latest science and featured stands and talks at the Sallis Benney theatre on the Grand Parade.
The Dental Institute stand was organised by Professor Abigail Tucker and looked at the science behind tooth replacement, how teeth are replaced in nature, and how new bioteeth could be generated in the future from stem cells as a solution for tooth loss. The stand involved a selection of skulls from the Guy's Life Sciences Museum, tooth models, a scratch card competition and an interactive iPad with movies from the division. The event was lots of fun and the volunteers were kept busy with a constant stream of questions from the visitors.
