Professor Beatrice Szczepek Reed announced as new Head of School

BSzczepekReed_218_2 (2)The School of Education, Communication & Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Beatrice Szczepek Reed as its new Head of School and Professor of Language in Education.

Professor Reed joins King’s from the University of York where she is currently Head of the Department of Education. She has an MA (Magister) in English and German from the University of Konstanz, an MA in Music from York University and a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Potsdam.

Prior to working at York, Professor Reed held lecturing and research positions at the Universities of Nottingham and Konstanz. Working within the field of conversation analysis and pragmatics she has particular research and teaching interests in the role of phonetics and prosody in conversation, cross-cultural comparisons of discourse practices and instructional interaction.

Professor Reed said “I am delighted to be joining the School of Education, Communication & Society at King’s College London. The School has a formidable reputation for high-quality research and teaching and I hope to play a key role in sustaining this level of academic and social impact into the future.”

Outgoing Head of School, Professor Sharon Gewirtz, who sat on the interview panel, said “Professor Reed impressed the panel with her excellent grasp of the issues facing schools of education in the current policy context, her outstanding scholarship and her warm and inclusive personal style.”

Professor Reed will assume her position as Head of the School of Education, Communication & Society on 1 September 2017.
