King's entrepreneurs speak at International Baccalaureate World Conference

Entrepreneurs from the King’s20 accelerator spoke to 240 international students at the 2017 IB World Conference last week.

This year the conference was held at King’s with the theme 'Well-being in a healthy world: personal responsibility and global health’ and looked at how we can work together to improve the well-being of the world’s most vulnerable people.

In the ‘Meet the Change Makers’ session, Amy Burley, King’s Bioscience graduate and member of The Medic app team, and Dr Bhavagya Bakshi, King’s GP and Cofounder of C the Signs, showcased their ventures and the positive impact they’re making. They also discussed their journeys from students to entrepreneurs.

They were joined by Ben Hunt, past President of KCLSU who spoke about his experience raising awareness and effecting change of student mental health at King’s.

The talks and introduction to the Entrepreneurship Institute by Engagement Manager Hemali Patel, were followed by a lively Q&A and video pitches of the project ideas students had worked on during the week.

Hemali said: “The student project pitches were really impressive. They came up with innovative solutions to challenges such as social exclusion, mental health and wellbeing, and we hope they’ll be inspired to make them happen!”

Learning Programme Manager from the Entrepreneurship Institute Jeremy Shorter said;

“We’re finding that the younger generation are increasingly aware of global issues and want a career where they can make a positive impact. Our entrepreneurs were very happy to share their experiences and highlight entrepreneurship as a career option.”
