Inspiring young people in Westminster

The Entrepreneurship Institute welcomed students from across the borough last week as part of Westminster Enterprise Week.

Students from schools and colleges in Westminster (aged 16 -24 years old) were invited to Bush House for an interactive workshop to help develop their enterprise skills and meet startups on the King's20 accelerator programme.

Jeremy Shorter, the Institute's Learning Programme Manager said, "Supporting our local community is central to King’s vision and we are passionate about giving people the confidence and skills they need to achieve. We had a brilliant afternoon of talks and interactive sessions and it was great to meet such an enthusiastic and engaged bunch of young people."

Veronica, age 16 from Westminster Academy said. "I'm a person that's always been very interested in business and this event has really pushed me into starting and doing something towards it. I learned about the different kinds of journeys you have to go through to achieve your goal and for me it was really inspirational."

More than half of young people in the UK aged 16 to 24 want to start their own business and Westminster City Council’s annual Enterprise Week aims to inspire them to become the next generation of entrepreneurs.

This year this included talks from high-profile entrepreneurs including Margaret Mountford and Tim Campbell from the BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, tours of Westminster’s enterprise spaces, master-classes and workshops to inspire young people to start up their own business.

Westminster Enterprise Week is a partner of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s largest entrepreneurship campaign. More information at www.businesswestminster.com/wew #WEW2017
