Christoph Meyer interviewed by CNN

In a CNN special, Becky Anderson discusses the results of the German general elections on 22 September 2013 with Christoph Meyer, Professor of European & International Politics, as one of the studio guests.

Christoph Meyer analysed the elections results, pointing out that despite the overwhelming victory for the CDU/CSU under Merkel, the old and new Chancellor would not be able to do as she pleases. Not only would she need a new potentially more difficult coalition partner, but would also have to rely on cooperation for many of the most significant new laws with the SPD-led Länder government. About 40 per cent of all news laws in Germany require the assent of the upper chapter, the German Bundesrat (Federal Council).
