New language pathway launches
The Department of European and International Studies, in cooperation with the Department of German, is pleased to announce the launch of a new opportunity for applicants interested in learning German from scratch alongside a BA in European Studies.
Along with our traditional modules for applicants who have already studied German at school, we now have ab initio modules that can take students from beginners’ to degree level in four years, open to students with no prior knowledge of the language.
This pathway includes an intensive year of study in a German-speaking environment at the Humboldt University in Berlin, and allows students to study the politics, economics, history and culture of one of Europe’s most influential societies, uncovering what makes Germany the UK’s most important trading partner and gives the country its vital role at the heart of the EU.
“I’m delighted that we’ll be offering a German language ab initio route for our German Pathway from 2015," says Christoph Meyer, Professor of International Relations and Head of the Department of European and International Studies. "Studying politics and history in conjunction with German ab initio will enable a new generation of students to develop a better understanding of Europe right in the heart of London."
