A World In Flux: The UK Election 2015
On 7 May 2015 the British electorate sprung a surprise on the British political class. While in the weeks running up to the UK general election all opinion polls gave the impression that no party would attain a strong position, on the night the Conservatives managed to attain a clear majority.
In Scotland, the Scottish National Party wiped out the once dominant Labour Party, shaking confidence in the survival of the United Kingdom. With the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats in disarray, the new Conservative government is now under pressure to follow through on a referendum on membership of the European Union David Cameron promised in 2012.
To help make sense of these developments, we have brought together Professor Christoph Meyer, Dr Lee Savage, Dr Edoardo Bressanelli and Dr Alex Clarkson to discuss the impact of the UK elections on Britain and Europe.
