PhD student wins Richard Cox Postgraduate Prize.
Esther Harper, a second year PhD student supervised by Dr Abigail Woods, has been awarded the Richard Cox Postgraduate Prize by the British Society of Sports History (BSSH), for the best post-graduate paper presented to the BSSH annual conference. Entitled "A Winning Performance: Training the Racehorse in the Late 19th and Early 20th Century", the paper was judged to 'bring fascinating insights to a subject...absent from the historiography of sport.' Esther is working for an AHRC-funded PhD in collaboration with Kings College London and the National Horse Racing Museum, Newmarket.
