Bridging the Gap - Inter-Disciplinary Informatics Funding
The Department of Informatics has been awarded funding to seed inter-disciplinary research activities that may last for the next few years. As part of our activities, we established a programme in the area of Interdisciplinary Informatics, broadly interpreted, for small (short-term) collaborative projects to pave the way for future research.
Though limited in size and number, we have supported activities under the themes of Security (Computer Science, Psychology, War Studies), Health (Computer Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Primary Care, Neuroimaging, Management, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Robotics) and Science & Engineering (Computer Science, Robotics, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Management, Geography, Mathematics).
Following on from earlier events that included a Dragon's Den style funding day, and in total bringing together 80 participants from these disciplines across the College, we will be holding a wrap-up event in which participants will report on progress to date in some of these 18 new interdisciplinary projects.
If you're interested in hearing more about the programme and the individual projects, join us on Friday 22 June 2012 between 3pm and 6pm in the newly refurbished East Wing of Somerset House (rooms SW1.17 and SW1.18). It will also provide an excellent opportunity to meet researchers who are actively seeking collaborators for future cross-disciplinary efforts.
