Research staff attend Cheltenham Science Fair

Researchers from King’s will attend the Cheltenham Science Fair to demonstrate the iCub robot. Thrishantha Nanayakkara, Giuseppe Cotugno and Kris De Meyer from the Centre for Robotics Research in the Department of Informatics will be at the Science Fair from 7 – 9 June 2013.

The iCub is a humanoid robot resembling a 3.5 years old child developed at the Instituto Italiano di Technologia. The iCub is used to progress research in humanoid robotics and to study human cognition. It has 53 motors, cameras in the eyes and touch sensors on the fingertips. As partners in the DARWIN project, researchers in the Department of Informatics are trying to understand how to grasp previously unseen objects using a complex hand such as the iCub's.
