IEEE KCL Student Branch hosts national meeting
On 14th of March, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) King’s College London (KCL) Student Branch (SB) Committee hosted an event that brought together members of other IEEE student branches to communicate and exchange their experiences.
Firstly, Peng Qi and Ali Shafti, the local organisers, chair and vice chair of IEEE KCL SB and PhD students in the Department of Informatics, took guests on a guided tour of the Strand campus. Beautiful and historical buildings and the nice weather impressed everyone.
The event included a workshop by the University of Southampton IEEE Student Branch on "How to Run a Successful Student Branch" as well as an extensive round the table discussion which highlighted examples of good and bad practice. Everyone discussed actively, drawing on their own experiences. These talks were followed by lunch and a friendly networking session.
Dr Mona Ghassemian was invited as the IEEE Student Activities Committee vice-chair to present to the Student Branch chairs in the IEEE UK and Ireland Section which was followed by a Q&A session.
Veronika Nesheva also delivered a presentation on the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society. Finally, research from the Centre for Robotics Research and the Centre for Telecommunications research groups in the Department of Informatics was introduced to the audience which received positive feedback.
The event was well attended and attendees showed a great interest in the talks and recent developments which helped to generate further interest in the IEEE KCL Student Branch.
The IEEE KCL Student Branch plan to further increase their activities to get more students involved with the IEEE. Current plans include:
- Further collaborations within and without KCL - taking teams of KCL students out to different IEEE contest sand events
- Together with KCL Robotics Society, IEEE KCL will host the Google Night event at King’s with around 300 people already signed up to join.
