Informatics hosts prestigious summer schools
The Department of Informatics recently hosted two major co-located summer schools: the 15th European Agent Systems Summer School and the 15th Advanced Course on Artificial Intelligence on the topic of argumentation.
The two schools represent the most prestigious teaching forums in their respective research areas (Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Agent Systems) and delivered a wide range of state-of-the-art courses given by world renowned academics in the area.
The schools are aimed at early career researchers and were attended by over 100 PhD students and post docs from across Europe, America, Japan and New Zealand. The two schools were run in parallel from 1- 5 July 2013 and, alongside the full programme of tutorials, included a very successful poster session and student workshop, which gave attendees the opportunity to discuss their work with a wide variety of their peers.
Dr Elizabeth Black and Dr Sanjay Modgil, lecturers in the Department of Informatics, were the local chairs for the two schools. Commenting on the experience, Elizabeth Black said "We’re really pleased with the success of the schools. Feedback from attendees and tutors has been incredibly positive and it was a wonderful opportunity to engage with the next generation of researchers.”
