Student funds robotics project on Kickstarter
Evangelos Georgiou, a PhD student in the Centre for Robotics Research (CoRe), Department of Informatics, had a robotics project successfully funded on the crowd funding platform Kickstarter.
The idea for the project is to deliver a hardware and software open source mobile robot platform, called ‘RK-1’. The robot is built on the popular Arduino platform and uses Wi-Fi to communicate with mobile phones and tablets. The innovation for this robot is that it uses swipe gestures to control the robot, so the focus is on having fun with the robot and not on how to control the device. The platform is ideal for any inventor that wants to make their electronics projects mobile.
The Kickstarter project received a lot of high profile media interest from some famous technology reviewers.
