Department of Informatics mentoring event a success

On Thursday 24 October 2013, the Department of Informatics held their second mentoring event for current students and alumni. The event took place at the Strand Campus of King’s College London in the Anatomy Museum. Around 70 people attended including Informatics alumni working in companies such as Credit Suisse, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, Microsoft, BlackRock, McKinsey, Bloomberg, Next Jump, Sky, JP Morgan and Hailo, as well as from tech start-ups. Students from the Department had the opportunity to present apps and innovations that that they developed and released themselves.

This was the Department's second Student Mentoring Evening, intended to provide a means for current students to build relationships and get informal advice about, and insight into, the commercial world, by connecting them to the Department’s former students in industry. Feedback from the event was very positive, and the next event will take place in March 2013.

Students attending praised the opportunity to network and focus on careers, one commented “I appreciate that this year there were more mentors from the technology side of the industry instead of being all from investment banking. This year’s event was very resourceful and helpful”. Alumni also enjoyed the event commenting that it was a wonderful evening and great to be back at King’s.
