Dedicated to the memory of Dr Steve Barker

Two publications have been dedicated to the memory of Dr Steve Barker, a member of the Department of Informatics who sadly passed away early in 2012. A special issue of IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing (vol. 9, no. 5, Sept-Oct 2012) has now appeared, edited by Bhavani Thuraisingham and Elena Ferrari, and dedicated to Steve, who was also an author of the fourth paper in the special issue. "Steve has been a major contributor of DASPY for the past fifteen years and will be sadly missed by the DASPY community."

A personal tribute to Steve, by Jason Crampton of Royal Holloway, University of London, has also appeared in Science of Computer Programming (vol. 78, no. 3, to be published in March 2013).

Finally, it was agreed at the DBSec conference that the 2012 IFIP 11.3 Outstanding Service Award for Data and Applications Security and Privacy should be awarded to Steve. DBSec is a conference with which Steve had a long association, as Programme Chair in 2007 and as General Chair in 2008, when he brought the conference to King's.

Steve is very much missed by colleagues, staff and students.
