Academic wins Supervisory Excellence Award

Professor Kaspar Althoefer was the NMS winner for the 2012 – 2013 Supervisory Excellence awards. Professor Althoefer is the Head of the Centre for Robotics Research (CoRE).

Professor Vaughan Robinson, Director of the Graduate School, commented: 'Now that the Supervisory Excellence Awards have become embedded within College life we received an exceptional set of nominations. This says a great deal about the dedication of King's PhD supervisors and the esteem in which their students hold them. It was extraordinarily difficult to select the winners. They will now help us spread best practice during the coming academic year.'

Professor Althoefer is currently the first supervisor of nine PhD students and co-supervisor of a further two PhD students.  Nine doctoral theses under his first supervision and six under his co-supervision have been successfully completed.

Kaspar was commended for going the extra mile to provide support to his PhD students. Some supervisees commented:

Each successful supervisor was awarded £1,000 to recognise and reward their outstanding supervision and support to research students at King’s. Professor Althoefer has also been invited to publically receive his award at one of the forthcoming Graduation ceremonies.
