Revd James Craig appointed Guy's Chaplain
We are delighted to announce that the Revd James (Jim) Craig will join King’s College London later in the summer as Chaplain to the Guy’s Campus. This follows the departure of Revd Stephen Stavrou, to work in a parish.
Jim will also be Associate Minister at the church of St George the Martyr, Borough High Street, where he will be involved in developing student ministry.
Jim has Chaplaincy experience in a number of contexts. He is currently Associate Chaplain to Northumbria University, and has also been working as a Community Arts Chaplain in the north-east of England for the last decade, supporting local churches in engaging with the local communities. He also has provided Chaplaincy services to the Trinity Square Shopping Centre in Gateshead and Tyne Tees Television.
The Dean of King’s College London, the Revd Canon Professor Richard Burridge commented: ‘Whereas in recent years we have shared the Guy’s Chaplain’s time with Southwark Cathedral, it is great that Jim will be available on the Guy’s Campus throughout the week.
‘The link with the Cathedral has been a good one, and we are now excited about this new partnership with the Diocese of Southwark and the local parish church of St George’s, with the potential for significant engagement with students from King’s and other local institutions.’
The Chaplaincy has also recently moved into new facilities at Guy’s at the former Site Services space on the ground floor of the Henriette Raphael Building. This has been converted into space for a Chaplaincy common room and an office (G.2).
We are also in conversations with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark about appointing a successor to the late Joan Tierney, lay Chaplain to the Guy’s Campus, who sadly died suddenly in February.
Jim and his family will move to London this Summer and will begin getting to know the King’s community at the start of the academic year in September; details of his formal welcoming and Licensing by the Bishop will be circulated in due course.
