King's in partnership with Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College London awarded ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership
King's College London, with partners Imperial College London and Queen Mary University of London, have today announced their new London ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership, specialising in training the next generation of social science researchers, giving them the necessary skills, curiosity and creativity to be truly innovative.
The London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP) is one of 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) across the UK funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
As part of the ESRC's new Doctoral Training Network, over 2500 PhD students will receive support from across the 70 university partnerships, as well as within two Centres for Doctoral Training resulting in over 500 new students beginning training every year for six years, with the opportunity for partners to co-fund, boosting the number of studentships available.
Professor Vivienne Jabri, Professor of International Relations at King's and Director of the ESRC LISS DTP, said: 'This partnership represents a fantastic opportunity to build on the diverse strengths of our respective organisations, providing postgraduate students with an unparalleled research environment, exceptional resources and access to unrivalled training opportunities. It will also provide unprecedented opportunities for academics at three of the country's leading institutions to collaborate and deliver our ambitious programme in social science research.'
Professor Jane Elliott, ESRC Chief Executive, said: "Our new Doctoral Traning Network will assure our students' futures as research leaders by providing them with valuable skills including capabilities in communication, project-management and collaboration within and beyond academia."
The DTPs will offer postgraduate studentships and training across the full range of ESRC's disciplines and in multidisciplinary teams, communicating research ideas and findings clearly, helping to enrich the student experience. Each DTP will create a strong and active community of students that are able - and encouraged - to integrate, work, and learn together. These students will receive in-depth, advanced research training, as well as training in the professional and transferable skills essential in today's economy.
