UK Quality Mark for King's College London

The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) has confirmed the quality and standards of provision at King's College London (King's) following its review in June 2016.

A team of QAA reviewers visited King's and judged that its academic standards, the quality and enhancement of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations.

The review identifies a number of examples of good practice. These include:

  • the comprehensive approach to, and engagement of students and staff in,
initiatives which widen access to King's
  • the capitalisation, by King's, on its world-renowned strengths, which provides opportunities for students at all levels to participate in a research culture
  • the provision of a range of co-curricular and other opportunities contributing to students' life skills and employability, which are strategically planned, widely available and well-regarded.

The review made one recommendation for improvement: that King's ensure that all intermediate awards have positively-defined learning outcomes at the appropriate level.

Tessa Harrison, Director, Students and Education, at King's College London said: 'We are delighted that the QAA outcome was so positive for King's and especially that our strengths in widening participation, student engagement with the King's research culture and the wide range of extracurricular activities supporting student employability were recognised by the QAA review team.

'We are looking forward to continue working with our amazing staff and students to further enhance our approach to quality assurance and enhancement.'

QAA's Higher Education Reviews are carried out by experts from other universities and colleges. Every review team includes a student reviewer, because QAA believes that students should be partners in the quality assurance of their education.

The team that reviewed King's comprised Dr Michael Byde (University of Leeds), Professor J Feather (Loughborough University), Dr Susannah Lamb (Nottingham Trent University), Professor David Lamburn (University of Warwick) and Mishal Saeed
(student reviewer, University of Oxford).

A successful review means that King's can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that it meets national requirements for standards and quality.
