New funding for PhD war studies studentship
A new Doctoral Research Studentship within the Department of War Studies at King’s has been funded over the next three years.
The gift has been donated to King’s College London to support the PhD studentship by the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. The Riyadh-based think tank is part of the philanthropic King Faisal Foundation.
The funding will allow the Department of War Studies to further advance its study of Islamist armed insurgent groups in the region as well as support a bright, young researcher pursue their PhD at King’s.
Shared research
The donation will also facilitate collaboration on shared research projects and workshops, in addition to allowing the exchange of researchers with the King Faisal Center.
The funding comes at a critical moment in time as the recent conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa have resulted in a proliferation of such non-state groups playing an increasingly pivotal role in the affairs of the region.
A spokesperson for The Department of War Studies said: “There is no question that this generous support will help broaden our remit and allow us to turn our attention to critical new research areas. King’s has a real vision for our work within global security and I know with the support as well as partnership of friends such as the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies we will reach our ambitions.”
The Department at King’s is the largest and most successful European university group of scholars focused on research relating to all aspects of war, peace, security and international relations past, present and future.
