Centre of European Law Summer School

The Centre of European Law (CEL) welcomed 30 students from over 17 counties to London in June to attend the Summer Course in EU Law. The CEL Summer School has run since 1987 and is the only regular course designed for professionals working in the field of EU Law that the Centre runs from the King's College London Campus on the Strand.

Lecturers are established experts and include academics from the Centre of European law and external speakers. This year speakers included: Professor Sir Francis Jacobs QC, King's, previously Advocate General at the European Court of Justice (and President of the Centre of European Law);Professors Alex Turk and Andrea Biondi (King’s); Leo Flynn, Legal Service, European Commission; Robin Griffith, Clifford Chance and King's and more.

2014 highlights included a formal dinner at the Athenaeum Club, a guided tour around the nearby legal district and an informal dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Students commented that they like the international environment, the range of subjects taught and the quality of the lecturers, all of whom are experts in their field.

About the course

The Summer School course is an advanced course in European Law aimed at those at postgraduate level working in a law-related environment with an interest in European Union law. The course runs over eight days with advanced lectures in various topics of EU Law and a social programme for students who come from all over the world to attend.
