5 Paper Buildings Moot

5 Paper Building Moot Court Competition

In December, the King’s Mooting Society organised the inaugural 5 Paper Buildings Criminal Law Moot. This specialised moot focused on issues revolving around criminal law and was endorsed by the illustrious criminal set, 5 Paper Buildings Chambers.

The moot had three rounds, culminating in the Grand Final, which was held in early December in Somerset House. The distinguished panel of judges comprised of Sir Anthony Hooper, former Lord Justice of Appeal and Patron of the King's Mooting Society, Mr Robert O’Sullivan QC, prominent barrister of 5 Paper Buildings Chambers and Dr Dennis Baker, Senior Criminal Law lecturer in The Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College London.

The four finalists, Isabella Reynoso (first year LLB student), Aishwarya Rao (first year LLB student), Rachel Williams (second year LLB student) and Jeremy Letwin (second year LLB student), argued a problem concerning manslaughter and duty of care.

The panel of judges appreciated the thorough preparation of all mooters and how elegantly they dealt with the judicial interventions, commenting on a very high standard of oral advocacy. Ultimately, the judges unanimously awarded the 5 Paper Buildings Trophy to Isabella Reynoso.

Thanks to the sponsorship of the 5 Paper Buildings, the competition was an unqualified success.
